Economical light household

What are the most energy-efficient alternatives to 60W standard bulb? High-quality energy-saving lamps and LED lamps. We tell you what to look for to find the right product for your needs. Today: energy saving lamps.

Important decision criteria

To achieve energy-saving lamps good lighting quality, as one is accustomed to the good old light bulb, should be aware of several selection criteria: The color rendering, color temperature, the starting time and the number of switching cycles.

Ideal color temperature

The color temperature should be for home use in 2700-3300K (warm white and cool white). Significantly higher color temperatures have a cold and are usually inappropriate in residential areas. Regarding color reproduction should be required at least 85-90%. 80% are now required as a minimum EU standard.

Long lead time?

An important criterion - and often gripe with energy saving lamps - the lamp starting time. Say, The time that it takes for a certain brightness is reached. Good lamps should it have a value of less than 30 seconds. For applications that require the repeated switching on and off of lamps per day and the maximum number of cycles is considered. A value of at least 30,000 should be required, with good lamps in practice create significantly higher values (> 70000). The stated life today should be at least good energy saving lamps at 12000h. The price level is currently depending on the performance and quality at 3-15 euros.

Lumens and energy efficiency

On the lamp packaging is now also the default brightness (luminous flux or lumen ) specified. This information is useful, however, first requires a rethinking of the original power ratings in watts. A lumen of 700 roughly corresponds to the brightness of a 60W bulb. 100W equivalent to 1300 lumens (lm) and 40W lamp lm 400. Energy efficiency, expressed in lumens / Watt shows how much light the lamp emits per watt.
